Data Centre Standby Generator Fuel Cleaning
Wax in Diesel Filter
Will your generator deliver when you need it? Do you want to be certain that the fuel in your tank is always perfectly clean and within specification? Standby generators often have the same fuel in them for years.
Fleury Engineering can ensure diesel stays on spec with an offline filter unit and our unique blend of fuel additives.
Avoid generator failure by keeping the fuel in the tank at its best. Over time diesel will break down due to exposure to heat, oxygen and moisture. The byproducts of these reactions turn the fuel dark brown or black. There can be a build up of a tarry substance called asphaltene from the diesel itself. Another source of contamiantion can be water itself. Where there is water there will be rust and scale particles. The conditions present when water and diesel and some heat combine will give the right environment for biological growth in the tank. This form of contamination is also referred to a the "diesel bug". A sure sign of the bug is sludge and string matter on the base of the tank or in the fuel filter.
The sludge which is dead bacteria cells creates a corrosive environment on the inside surface of the tank. Mild steel tanks show pitting when the sludge is removed.
Our solution is to install an off line filter. This filter has its own pump and will circulate the fuel continuously through a 3 micron filter to remove all impurities including water and "bugs".
In winter too fuel can suffer from waxing. This is due to fuel reaching a temperature where paraffin wax crytals form. Summer grade diesel has a cold Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) of -5 Deg C. Wnter grade has a CFPP of -15Deg C. If you have summer grade fuel in your diesel tanks you run the risk of wax blocking fuel delivery pipes or filters as in the picture below.
For ongoing protection against the deterioration associated with long term storage we reccomend the use of Fleury Fuel Store Plus. This speciall blend of additives will keep fuel on spec longer and combat the effects of moisture, water and temperature all of which are factors in the breakdown of fuel.
